Your Gamete, Myself response

After reading this article, I had many different feelings and opinions. The whole idea of egg or sperm donation and in vitro fertilization doesn't bother me. I would actually consider donating my eggs if it was to benefit someone else and give them the chance the have a family. I know the Catholic religion is opposed to research related to egg and sperm experimentation. I think that if it can benefit society, why not support research?

I've heard that there are some dangerous aspects of egg donation; possibly inability to have children later in life. I think the best time to donate would be when you have already had kids of your own and don't plan on having any more.

One of the hardest things is when your child finds out that their mother wasn't their birth mother. In the article, the author mentions that she believes that it is the child's rights to know who their real mother is and where they came from. Many kids end up wanting to find their biological mother. I believe it is better to be well informed than to have your past hidden from you. I know that if I was either adopted or came from an egg donor, I would want to meet my mother. This process also allows older women to have the ability of having children. The oldest woman on record was the age of 60 when she became pregnant. Over the years, egg/sperm donation and in vitro fertilization has become increasingly popular. As research furthers, it will only continue to grow.

"Facebook: Why I Hate It" Response

Before I even read this essay, I disagreed with it just because of the title. I don't think I could ever hate Facebook. I get excited every time a red notification box pops up, or when I have a friend request. The pictures are my favorite part of Facebook. It really is a website that lets people look into your personal life and see who you are with and what you are doing.

Although, as I continued to read further down the page, I could relate to many of the things the author was talking about. For instance, she mentioned checking Facebook before even brushing her teeth. I found this to be funny because I check Facebook in the morning, afternoon, and night. I always want to know what my friends are up to and any new pictures that they have added. Even tonight, when I was supposed to be doing my homework, I found myself looking at pictures of a girl I'm not even that close with. It is a very big distractment for me. I also agree with the author when she talks about all the time she has wasted on Facebook. I probably could have been done my homework about and hour or two ago if I didn't spend much of my free time online. I even see people at the library who are on Facebook. Don't they go to the library to get away from the distractions in their room?

Overall, I don't agree with the article because I do, and probably always will love Facebook. It is a great site for people to make friends and stay connected. I would feel lost without having a Facebook account. It is a fun way to spend your free time even if it seems pointless.
